Marta's verhaal (English below)
“Ik heb het idee dat ik mijn muziek hier beter kan ontwikkelen. Dus ik blijf definitief hier,” zegt Marta uit Zuid-Spanje vastberaden. Ze kwam in 2013 naar Rotterdam, Codarts om precies te zijn. “Dat is het enige conservatorium waar je zo veel verschillende muziekstijlen kunt studeren, zoals Indische en Latijns-Amerikaanse. Ik vind dat interessant omdat het mixen van verschillende culturen jezelf verrijkt als mens,” zegt deze 39-jarige.
Verbonden
Deze verschillende culturen ziet Marta ook terug in de stad. “Ik kan hier veel verschillende mensen ontmoeten, ook veel musici. Zo kan ik ook veel netwerken in de muziek en mezelf beter ontwikkelen.” Meer dan alleen de muziek en de mensen in Rotterdam laat haar hart sneller kloppen voor onze stad. “Dit alles kun je misschien ook wel vinden in andere steden zoals New York, maar Rotterdam is niet zó groot. Dus daarom voelt het hier wat meer verbonden. En ik hou van die ‘easygoing vibe’ van Rotterdam.”
Zo kwam het dat ze kwam voor een bachelor, maar bleef voor haar master. Nu geeft ze celloles bij het SKVR. “En ik heb het gevoel dat ik me door kan ontwikkelen. Dus ik zal hier voorlopig blijven.”
Marta's story
“I feel I can develop my music here. So I will definitely stay here,“ says Marta from southern Spain with determination. She came to Rotterdam in 2013, Codarts to be exact. “That’s the only conservatory where you can study so many different styles of music, such as Indian and Latin American. I find that interesting because mixing different people enriches yourself as a person,” says this 39-year-old.
Connected
Marta also sees these different cultures in the city. “I can meet a lot of different people here, including a lot of musicians. This also allows me to network a lot in music and develop myself better.” More than just the music and people in Rotterdam makes her heart beat faster for our city. “All this you might also find in other cities like New York, but Rotterdam is not that big. So that’s why it feels a little more connected here. And I love that ‘easygoing vibe’ of Rotterdam.”
So it was that she came for a bachelor’s, but stayed for her master’s. Now she teaches cello at the SKVR. “And I feel I can continue to develop. So I will stay here for the time being.”
