Daniela came from Hungary to Rotterdam 12 years ago for love. However, she met the one in Madrid. “I first met him online and when I was traveling for work for the European Union.” Sparks flew, but the two did not move immediately. For two years, they met remotely. “Eventually the political situation in Hungary became unacceptable to me. So that made the decision easier for me to leave Hungary and then of course move to Rotterdam.”
Despite having a son, she went alone. “He got a scholarship in Britain at the same time. Then he did come to the Netherlands to study here as well.” Now he works for a real Rotterdam employer: the Erasmus. Daniela also enjoys working for real Rotterdam employers, voluntary or otherwise. For example, she has been working for the International Film Festival Rotterdam for nine years. “Because I love Rotterdam, the different cultures and city life.” For now, then, she doesn’t want to leave Rotterdam, but that’s not just because of the city. She is still in love with her husband. “Our love life is still alive and kicking,” she laughs.
