Faces of Rotterdam travels through Rotterdam

Faces of Rotterdam will travel, with all the portraits and interviews of Rotterdammers of all the nationalities of the city, through the city. From Diversity Day, October 7th, the exhibition and movie will be seen for three weeks at Zuidplein theater in Rotterdam. A brand new inclusion flag is also being displaced in front of the theatre; this symbolizes pride in all nationalities. Outside, next to the flag, 10 big photocubes are being showed with 40 portraits. You can read or hear their stories via a QR code on the cubes or with the audio tour. Visitors can also enjoy a short film inside featuring interviews with Rotterdam residents. Among them, a Rotterdam resident from Guatemala talks about seeing our zebra crossings for the first time, and a Rotterdam resident from Burundi explains what she loves about “our” lunch.

At the opening at the 7th of October at Theater Zuidplein, photographer Robert Tjalondo will share his idea and his experiences interviewing all the Rotterdammers. You can also ask the Rotterdammers in the portraits anything you want during speed dating sessions: why did someone from Chile come to cold Rotterdam? What can we learn from a big city like Tokyo? At the opening, the aldermen will launch and raise the true inclusion flag.

Traveling exhibition – second meeting at ‘t Klooster on October 28

The performance will then travel to venues including ‘t Klooster and the LCC Romeynshof. On October 27, part of the exhibition will land at ‘t Klooster, the community center in the Afrikaanderwijk neighborhood. All the Rotterdam residents from the series who come from Zuid will be featured there. Rotterdam’s new inclusion flag will hang alongside the portraits. ‘t Klooster will celebrate this exhibition with a meeting on Tuesday, October 28, at 5:00 PM. Photographer Robert Tjalondo will explain his project, and we’ll speak with some of the Rotterdammers featured in the exhibition. The short film will also be shown, and you can speed date with several Rotterdammers of various nationalities living in South Rotterdam.

Faces of Rotterdam is an initiative of the Kloofdichters foundation in collaboration with the municipality of Rotterdam and partly funded by the Cultural Fund.
